Xinnian kuaile ~ again

Happy New Year! It’s the second day of the Year of the Golden Pig. The Year of the Pig comes every 12 years, but the Year of the Golden Pig only every 60! It is a special year indeed. In fact, it is a lucky year to have children in China, so perhaps this is why we needed to wait until this year for our referral for our daughter. Of course, she will be a Dog and I don’t believe in astrology, but let’s go with this fantasy for a bit. In fact, throw in a ladybug attached to a red thread and the image is complete. In fact, pull that red thread toward us a little bit to bring our little 2005 Puppy home in this Golden Piggy year.

Back to reality… Yesterday we attended a Chinese New Year celebration that was hosted by our Chinese School and the new FCC chapter. What fun!!! There was food, activities for the kids, dancing, singing, and fireworks! The children from the school performed, singing and dancing, showing the skills learned in their Sing and Play and Mommy, Daddy, and Me classes. Very cool! The “fireworks” were very cool. Lot’s of bubble wrap was taped to the floor. First, there was a lion dance, with drumming, to show how it’s done, then everyone jumped on board. It was really loud! We stayed afterwards to help clean up. The Husband’s main duty was babysitting. Our teacher’s daughter has taken a real shine to her Rei Zi Shu Shu, or Uncle Husband. In fact, she’s been known to call him on her toy cell phone and say, “Rei Zi Shu Shu, Mommy says don’t do that!” It’s always nice when you have an uncle to help you work out your issues. She doesn’t understand why her mommy can’t give her full attention at these school events and it’s a little hard on her, but she’s getting comfortable with other adults, so this helps. Here she is listening to a book about dragons. She was excited because there was a little girl whose hair was styled like hers in the book and she decided it was her. She was also excited to be finding dragons everywhere. When we left we got a hug and a kiss from two little ones, but we missed the Kidlet. Speaking of Kidlet, what do you think she’s doing right now? It’s 5:36 tomorrow morning and I think she’s still asleep. She’s holding her cribmate’s hand. How cute!
